The Stables at Fort McDowell offers authentic “Dutch Oven”or BBQ style cowboy cookouts that may be combined with a trail ride or our City Slicker Cattle Drive. Treat your guests to some top-notch Cowboy Cookin’ in a rustic outdoor setting with spectacular Arizona sunsets and some serious horseplay.
Scenic Trail Rides
Looking for the best horseback ride in the Valley of the Sun? We’ve got it!. Ride through the pristine Sonoran desert with exhilarating panoramas of mountains, canyons and mesas. You will likely see some of the wild horses that roam the Fort McDowell Yavapai lands. There’s also a good chance you’ll see some eagles, hawks and vultures flying overhead, along with some lizards, snakes, coyotes and bobcats running under foot. All in all it will be an enjoyable day on the dusty trail with a short splash through the Verde River on horseback. From first-timers to seasoned cowpokes, all levels of ability are welcomed.
City Slicker Cattle Drives – Groups of 10 or more
Move ‘em on, head ‘em up, Head ‘em up, move ‘em out… That’s right, you and your friends will keep them doggies rollin’ through the Sonoran desert on a 2 hour cattle drive with real cowboys! Participate as much as you’d like…you can just ride your horse at the back of the pack and enjoy the scenery, or if you’re more of a “Type A” personality, you can ride up with the cowboys and keep those cows on the straight and narrow!
